Water filter systems installed in your home can use a filtration action to eliminate trace metals, synthetic chemicals and organic chemicals from your water supply. The most common of these are chlorine and lead (which was widely used in water mains piping and household plumbing). By filtering out these contaminants water quality is not only healthier and odor free but has a much improved taste.
There are numerous filtration systems available for your home needs such as:
Micro porous ceramic filters – This strain water through tiny pores that sieve out harmful elements. After a while the filter will get clogged up, but can be unclogged by running water through the opposite direction.
Granular activated carbon and carbon block resin filters – These apply a similar process. But will need to be replaced every so often depending on the amount of water being filtered.
Water distillers – This process involves boiling water and condensing the steam back to water. Although this can produce pure water, it also removes the waters natural minerals, and is not very efficient as it losses a lot of water through evaporation.
Reverse osmosis filters – invented to transform sea water into drinking water, and is probably the most effective filtering process available. But again this method also removes the waters natural minerals.
Water filters can be installed on any water appliances throughout your house. These can be counter top filters, under sink filters, or even shower filters. However by installing a whole house water filter system at the mains entry point all your water appliances will be supplied with fresh filtered water.
